# Linux (this note is intentionally broad, yet also very specifically aimed at my uses of Linux, which is primarily Ubuntu 24 on a Framework laptop) - holding Shift at boot time does nothing for me - pressing Esc repeatedly at boot time puts me in the `grub>` command line - pressing F4 repeatedly at boot time puts me in a boot menu, where I can select Ubuntu recovery mode - I had an issue on 20241020 where I had to boot into recovery mode and then reinstall Ubuntu-desktop ([solution](https://community.frame.work/t/solved-ubuntu-wont-boot-hangs-when-displaying-logs/29148))
