# CAD for CAM (Computer Aided Design for Computer Aided Machining) The main CAD program I use is [[FreeCAD]]. My only CAM machine is the Shaper Origin, so these notes pertain mainly to that. --- [Shaper Sessions 0088: Cutting Brass with Shaper Origin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbmNWVLkXfM) - for large pockets, don't use a Pocket cut. Use offsets. Can better handle feeds 'n' speeds this way - 1/8" x 1/4" O-flute bit - spindle speed 2-4, autospeed 4-8 ipm (respectively) - max depth per cut 1mm (0.04in) - autopass ramp setting of "5" - shaper has features for depth passes and for the roughing/finishing cuts! They mention not cutting ferrous metals, but not for anything intrinsic to ferrocity :P, but because it needs liquid cooling.
